Simulation Explains Supermassive Black Holes
From /., "Using a new computer model of galaxy formation, researchers from Carnegie Mellon University have shown that growing black holes release a blast of energy that fundamentally regulates galaxy evolution and black hole growth itself. According to its creators, 'the model explains for the first time observed phenomena and promises to deliver deeper insights into our understanding of galaxy formation and the role of black holes throughout cosmic history'. Hi res pictures and animations (divX) are also available."

Panoramic Photos From The Apollo Missions
From /., "This link lets you experience the moon just as the Apollo missions' astronauts did -- almost as you were there -- with QuickTime panorama views. Less known is that during all the missions they made image sequences which with todays computer technics can be stitched together into 360-degree interactive panoramas giving you the possibility to view the moon almost as you were there. Many of these panoramas have been published before, but in low resolution and displayed in small sizes. During the last year the original films have been rescanned in large resolution and the Apollo 11 images were released the week before the 35 year anniversary."

I'm an outlier!
Today at work, Kat described me as an outlier in a sample size of one. I'm not sure how it was intended, but I think that's the coolest thing anyone's said to me in months!

Patients get Solar Implants in Eyes
From /., "As reported at Science Blog, ophthalmologists have implanted Artificial Silicon Retina microchips in the eyes of five patients to treat vision loss caused by retinitis pigmentosa. The implant is a 2mm chip that contains about 5,000 microscopic solar cells that convert light into electrical impulses. Already some patients have experienced improvements such as not bumping into objects around the house, and being able to read the time on a clock."

Darth Vader's Blog
I saw this on /. and it was also emailed to me by Wil. It's the personal web journal of The Dark Lord of the Sith. It seems to pick up just before Empire Strikes Back. It's a mix of entries that explore the inner workings of the character of Darth Vader alongside entries like "I Am Surrounded By Idiots." And you get to learn new things about the one of the coolest villains ever to grace the silver screen. Apparently he does a mean impression of Mace Windu's corpse.
